News: Halo 4 Details Revealed

Narrative details for Halo 4 have been revealed at Halo Fest and PAX 2011. 343 Industries, the studio now behind the franchise, have announced that Halo 4 and the two other Halo games in the new-trilogy will be known as the 'Reclaimer Trilogy".

The game will be a direct continuation of Halo 3, continuing from the scene shown at the end of Halo 3, when completed on Legendary difficult, where Master Chief and Cortana head towards a mysterious planet. The planet in question is now known to be a Forerunner planet.

Halo 4 is set to explore Cortana and Master Chief's minds and characters more, with franchise development director Frank O'Connor stating that 'it will deal with the fate of John and Cortana. There's a lot of speculation about Cortana's mind state. There's a lot of relationship between those two characters. Character is something we're focusing on very strongly this time.'

Creative director Josh Holmes emphasises the point, stating that 'This is John's story, but when you look at the two characters who are at the centre of this universe and their relationship and how important that's been to Halo over the first 10 years, it's something we really wanted to explore as a team.'

In response to some online criticism regarding Master Chief's appearance in the trailer below, Senior Art Director Kenneth Scott confirmed that the design is not final, stating 'The Chief you saw in the teaser is not the final Chief. We understand how important Chief is to this universe and the people who play him. We're probably on iteration number four right now. There's a lot of love and investment in making sure he's the best he can possibly be.'
