News: Dragon Quest X confirmed as online RPG for Wii AND Wii U

Seemingly confirming that, in fact, the Wii is the true home of quality JRPGs - don't believe me? Xenoblade Chronicles, The Last Story, Pandora's Tower - Square Enix have confirmed the long-ago announced Dragon Quest X will definitely be coming to Wii and will take the form of an "online RPG". What exactly qualifies the game as an online RPG is still a mystery at the moment but a few other interesting tidbits have been confirmed.

Significantly, there is a version also being developed for the Wii U. Although there's a distinct feel of Twilight Princess-itis about this, Square Enix have detailed that the game will be playable cross-platform and feature improved graphics.

It also appears that unlike Dragon Quest VII and IX, this is being developed specifically by Square Enix's teams as opposed to the House of Layton, Level 5.

The trailer below shows a graphical style not a million miles removed from the previous few Dragon Quest titles.

No release date has been confirmed for DQX as of yet, although creator Yuji Horii gave an always reassuring "Maybe it will be out in 2012." Great, 2014 that is then.
